Frequently asked questions

Answers to some of the questions you might have.

Requirements

I have a compact license that allows me to work in different states. Are there any location requirements for working per diem?

To work a per diem shift with us, you must reside within 1.5 hours of the facility. The hospitals we work with can confirm shifts 1.5 hours before the start time and we want to ensure you have enough time to get to your shift. However, some facilities will require you to be within 50 miles as well. You can cross a state line to work if you’re licensed there and are within the driving timeframe of 1.5 hours.

How much am I expected to work?

If there are jobs available in your area for your specialty, you can pick up as many shifts as you'd like! We have a minimum of four days of availability per month. If something comes up where you can’t commit to four days per month, we just ask that you let our staffing team know. Facility cancels will not be held against you. If you go 90 days without working a shift, your status will change to inactive in the system. Please note, some facilities will remove access after 60 days of inactivity. Once you’re ready to be re activated, let your per diem recruiter know.

What are the experience requirements?

All per diem positions require at least one year of experience since there is no training provided. Some facilities may require two or more years of experience.

Can I work multiple facilities?

Yes! We work with multiple hospitals in each area we staff and provide you with the option to work at any facility you're commutable to. The shift requirement is overall, not per hospital.

Credentialing & pay

I'm already credentialed with Aya. Is there a separate process for per diem?

If you’re already working with Aya and were recently credentialed, great! This gives you a head start on your per diem journey. We can transfer everything applicable, but some additional compliance items will need to be completed. Your per diem recruiter will go over the credentialing process, details on how to access the Shifts app and more.

How do I get paid?

You will be paid weekly via direct deposit as a W-2 employee. Every Friday is payday and per diem shifts are paid at the set hourly rate. Per diem rates can fluctuate with the market. There are no reimbursements for travel included. You will have a dedicated payroll representative to help with any pay-related questions and concerns.

How long is the process to get started?

This depends on the facility and whether they have a set orientation schedule. On average, it takes 2-5 weeks from the time your application is submitted to when you can pick up your first shift.

Recruiter & booking shifts

I'm already working with a travel recruiter through Aya. Do I need to work with a per diem recruiter as well?

Yes! Let your travel recruiter know you’d like to pick up shifts and they’ll connect you with an expert per diem recruiter who can discuss the job opportunities in your area and walk you through the details to help you get started.

I downloaded the Shifts app but can’t see available shifts in my area. How can I view shift details?

You will have access to view open shifts and schedule your shifts through the Shifts app once you’re fully compliant, attend orientation (if the facility requires you to do so) and are moved to ‘per diem working’ status. We are actively expanding to serve more hospitals; your recruiter will alert you if opportunities become available in your area.
